DAMCOP was established in 2003 by a great visionary Mr. K. V. Sankaranarayanan, the founder of DAMCOP, with a view to provide best education in Pharmacy to the poor and needy students. Ever since the educational arena in Kerala was thrown open to the self-financing sector, many institutions imparting professional education have mushroomed in the State. But, the DAMCOP stands out for its student-centric approach and uncompromising commitment to quality. Then onwards the growth of the college has been phenomenal in materials and men. This fifteen year-old institution has become the byword for quality education in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the diploma to postgraduate and doctoral programmes.
A Journey in Brief
The journey was started in 2003 for imparting Bachelor of Pharmacy. Later, it was elevated to a PG institution and started imparting Master of Pharmacy from 2009 onwards. The PG branches like, Pharmaceutical Chemistry was started in 2009, Pharmaceutical Analysis in 2010, Pharmaceutics in 2011, and Pharmacology in 2012. A prestigious programme of Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Doctor of Pharmacy was started in 2011. Diploma in Pharmacy was started in 2014. As a feather in the cap of DAMCOP, in the year 2016, Doctoral Programmes (Ph. D.) were introduced in the Departments, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology.
Our D. Pharm. and B. Pharm. courses have got the approval from PCI, New Delhi, vide folio no. 02.281/2017-PCI, Pharm. D. vide folio no.02.280/2017-PCI, and M. Pharm. vide folio no. 01.101/2017-PCI. All the above courses are approved by PCI till the academic session 2021-22. Likewise, AICTE, New Delhi has accorded Extension of Approval vide foliono. South-West/1-3327379052/2017/EOA and Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur, vide ref no. 10535/2016.

Eligibility Norms
- Pharm.:
A pass in any of the following Examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics: i) Intermediate examination in science; ii) the first year of three year degree course in science; iii) 10+2 examination (academic stream) in science; iv) pre-degree examination; or v) any other qualifications approved by PCI as equivalent to any of the above examinations.
- Pharm.:
Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or any other Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Biology / Mathematics / Biotechnology / Computer Science separately and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Mathematics / Biotechnology / Computer Science put together are eligible. Candidates from National Open School are not eligible.
- Pharm. (Lateral Entry):
A candidate seeking admission to B. Pharm. Lateral Entry (to Third semester) must have passed D. Pharm. course from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act.
- Pharm.:
Candidates who have passed B. Pharm. Degree Examination from Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) or any other Examinations equivalent to of any other Universities recognized by KUHS, with not less than a total of 55% marks for the B. Pharm. Degree Examination shall be eligible for admission to M. Pharm. degree course. The candidate should have undergone B. Pharm. degree course in a PCI and AICTE approved institution.
Pharm. D.:
- i) Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala or any other Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Biology / Mathematics separately and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Mathematics put together are eligible.[OR]
- ii) A pass in D. Pharm. course with a minimum of 50% marks in D. Pharm. examination from an institution approved by PCI under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act. [OR]
iii) Any other qualification approved by the PCI as equivalent thereto any of the above examinations.
Discontinuation of the course:
If any candidate discontinues the course after closing of admissions as decided by the competent authority including the Court of Law, the candidate has to pay liquidated damages to the tune of full fee of the course. The candidate shall claim for TC and other certificates ONLY after clearing all the dues.

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was established in the year 2009. The M. Pharm. program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry was initiated in the same year and aimed to deliver expertise in the emerging areas of Drug Discovery, Drug Design, and Extraction & isolation of phytoconstituents. The Department is also committed to deliver skills in the innovative processes for the manufacturing of drug and drug intermediates and their quality assurance using sophisticated instruments. Our research activities include, custom synthesis based on various biological targets, Polymeric Drug design, Isolation, characterization and evaluation of bioactive constituents from natural sources.The Department is equipped with computer aided drug design lab to facilitate in-silico designing of drug candidates.We also offer excellent infrastructure, well equipped laboratories with sophisticated equipments. Extensive publication in national and international reputed journals speaks volume of the Department’s commitment to research activities.
Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis
The Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis was established in the year 2009. The M. Pharmacy course in Pharmaceutical Analysis was started in the year 2010. The course was designed to provide industry ready professionals for the analysis of pharmaceuticals with appropriate skill set, knowledge base and practical expertise. The research laboratory in the Department is equipped with sophisticated analytical instruments like High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), FT-IR Spectrophotometer, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, Fluorimeter, Flame Photometer, Polarimeter, Nephlo turbidity meter etc. The Departmental activities are supported by well qualified and trained faculty.
Department of Pharmaceutics
The Department of Pharmaceutics was established in the year 2009. The M. Pharmacy course in Pharmaceutics was started in the year 2011 to strengthen research and training in the area of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Department will strive to achieve excellence in the area of drug development, with the objective of developing cost effective newer delivery systems for better medication compliance. The department has initiated the research activities in drug delivery systems such as tablets, capsules, liquid orals, microcapsules, nanoparticles, transdermal systems, etc.The Department is equipped with facilities like Tablet punching machine 8Station, Digital tablet dissolution test apparatus IP, Digital tablet disintegration test apparatus IP,Planetary mixer, Double cone blender, Tray dryer, Pan coating machine, Brook field digitalviscometer, Stability chamber, BOD incubator, Refrigerated centrifuge, Microcentrifuge, Gelelectrophoresis, Paper electrophoresis, Trinocular microscope, Shaker incubator, Antibiotic zonereader, Ampoule filling and ampoule washing machine, Bottle filling machine, Collapsible tube filling and ampoule sealingmachine, Capsule filling machine, Bulk density apparatus, Hardness tester, Friability test apparatusand Propeller type mechanical agitator etc.
Department of Pharmacology
The Department of Pharmacology was established in the year 2009. The M. Pharmacy course in Pharmacology was started in the year 2012. The Department offers training in Pharmacology and Toxicology to both undergraduate and post graduate students, who may subsequently go on to exciting research, regulatory and administrative careers in academic, industrial, and healthcare provision settings. The Department is aimed to prepare exceptional students for productive and successful careers in Pharmaceutical Industry, academia, research and public sectors. The Department has Animal House approved by CPCSEA (Registration No: CPCSEA Reg. No. 1527/PO/Re/S/11/CPCSEA, approved up to 28.09.2022) for conducting experiments on Mice, Rats, Guinea Pigs, and Rabbits. The Department is equipped with facilities like Eddy’s hot [plate, Digital plethysmometer, Rotarod, Infrared actimeter, Digital electro convulsiometer, Auto analyser, Digital Cook’s pole climbing apparatus, Tele thermometer, Elevated plus maze for mice & rats, Y maze for mice & rats, Radial arm maze for mice and rats, etc.
Department of Pharmacy Practice
The Department of Pharmacy Practice was established in the year 2009.The Department offers 6 years integrated Pharm. D. programme. The Department is aimed to evolve the concept of Clinical Pharmacy through Practice and Education in India and to focus on the importance of the involvement of practicing Pharmacists in patient care. Clinical Pharmacy Practice was established through a model center for the practice of Clinical Pharmacy at PVS Hospital, Kozhikode, with a 310 bedded tertiary care hospital. The Department has established a good infrastructure for Clinical Pharmacy Practice, with facilities like Drug Information Center, Patient Counseling Center, and ADR Monitoring Unit. The Department is well equipped with latest text books, National and International Journals, and Drug database subscription from Lexicomp which satisfies the requirements of Clinical Pharmacy services.
Department of Pharmacognosy
The Department of Pharmacognosy was established in the year 2009 to keep abreast of the rapid developments in the knowledge and utilization of medicinal plants. There is an ever increasing acceptance for the past three decades for herbal drugs all over the world. The universal role of plants in the treatment of disease is exemplified by their employment in all the major systems of medicine. The Department is equipped with facilities for the isolation of new drugs and lead compounds from traditional remedies.

- Anti-ragging Committee
It was constituted as per the guidelines given by Hon’ble Supreme Court in a Judgement for a Civil Appeal No. 887 of 2009. This committee is reconstituted every year. The candidates seeking admission have to give anundertaking that they will abide by the rules andregulations prescribed by the institution in accordance with the statutory bodies.Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited within thepremises of this institution as well as on public transport.In accordance with the order of the Hon’ble SupremeCourt dated 10.12.2007, in the Special Leave to Appeal(Civil)NOS 24295 and 24296-99 of 2004, “if any incidentof ragging comes to the notice of the authority, theconcerned student shall be given liberty to explain andif his explanation is not found satisfactory, the authoritywould expel him from the institution.”

- Anti-ragging Squad
Ragging is a form of abuse on a fresher or any other student, to any institution. To check the menace of ragging, our institution has constituted Anti-ragging Squad. The main objectives of the Squad are as follows: To aware the students of dehumanizing effect of ragging inherent in its perversity; To keep a continuous watch and vigil over ragging so as to prevent its occurrence and recurrence; To promptly and stringently deal with the incidents of ragging brought to our notice; and To generate an atmosphere of discipline by sending a clear message that no act of ragging shall be tolerated and any act of ragging shall not go unnoticed and unpunished.

The Cell is constituted to look after the training and placement activities of students, to have close liaison with industry for placement of students, to collect feedback from the companies coming for placement, to arrange training programmes for soft skills and for interview facing skills for the students using institutional and external expertise.

- NSS Unit
The NSS Unit was started to provide NSS orientation to the students for social service scheme, to conduct NSS regular activities as per the NSS and university guidelines, and to organize NSS annual special camp in a selected village.

- Institutional Hostel Review Committee
They shall collectively carry out hostel rounds during the working hours of the institution and if necessary even after the working hours to ensure that the student’s amenities, dining, and mess needs and discipline are maintained. They shall periodically assess the quality of food. Purchase made for the various provisions and vegetables for the hostel shall be checked by them with regard to the quantity and quality of the material delivered to the hostel. They shall receive the grievances, complaints, if any, regard to the food quality, menu change, ragging, theft, etc., if any, from the students and redress them.

- Anti-smoking Campaign
Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution Act, 2003 is an Act of Parliament of India enacted in 2003 to prohibit advertisement of, and to provide for the regulation of trade and commerce in, and production, supply and distribution of cigarettes and other tobacco products in India.Tobacco products cannot be sold to person below the age of 18 years, and in places within 100 meters radius from the outer boundary of schools and colleges.In accordance with this act, our institution is a Smoke Free Zone.
